MLK Day of Service

Monday January 20th

CELEBRATING A DAY ON; NOT A DAY OFF! .....What to Expect

The City of Plant City embarks on a day of service where various organizations, and volunteers tackle community service projects throughout the Greater Plant City area.

Every year, Americans come together on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, a day of national service and dialogue to honor the memory of Dr. King. From hosting an America's Sunday Supper to leading a service project or recognizing exceptional volunteers in your community, there are many ways to celebrate MLK Day.

The Improvement League of Plant City is partnering with Bealsville Incorporated to host a one day event Monday January 20, 2020.

These events are held in recognition of the MLK Day of Service and Carefest which are partnering to conduct community service projects throughout the City of Plant City.

We encourage you to consider taking a "Day On, Not A Day Off" and serve others.

The events will kick off with a assembly at the Bing House Museum between 730am to 830am and volunteers go out to assigned community service projects. Volunteers will meet back at the Bing House for a media photograph.

Call the Bing House Museum Monday thru Thursday 9am to 3pm for more information.

There are two key community service projects on Monday. One is the Bing House Museum at 205 South Allen Street Plant City, and the "larger" project is the Historic Glover School Campus at 5104 Horton Road, Plant City, FL 33567.

Both historic sites will be host to the upcoming Florida Museum Conference Feb 5-8, 2020.

Hosting the MLK Day of Service in conjunction with Carefest has become a signature event for the month long Plant City MLK Festival. There are over 250 volunteers from as far as West Tampa that participate in this morning event. Since 1982 the non-profit group Improvement League of Plant City has been dedicated to protecting and preserving Plant City’s historic, architectural and geographic resources; in short, saving the places that matter..

"People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other." Dr. King
